Dr. Christine L. Wells is professor emeritus of exercise science at Arizona State University. She received her bachelor of science degree from the University of Michigan, her master of science degree from Smith College, and her Ph.D. from the Pennsylvania State University. She completed post-doctoral studies at the University of California at Santa Barbara. She has taught at Dalhousie (Nova Scotia, Canada), Temple University, and Arizona State University. Dr. Wells has distinguished herself in several areas of study including human temperature regulation, studies of athletic training, and the role of physical activity in fitness and health. She has received numerous awards for her outstanding achievements from The Women’s Sports Foundation, Pennsylvania State University, and The American College of Sports Medicine. She has written extensively in her field and is the author of Women, Sport, and Performance: A Physiological Perspective (Human Kinetics, 1985, 1991) and Environment and Human Performance (with E. Haymes, Human Kinetics, 1986). She recently retired from university teaching to write about women’s health issues.
